Bangkok’s BEST Hidden Street Food Tour 🔥

Today I’m taking you on the ultimate DIY street food tour in Old Town Bangkok, right in the heart of the old city Bangkok, and the best part? Every stop is within just a 5-minute walk along one canal.

This is proper local food. No tourist traps. Just three incredible spots you can easily follow yourself.

We start at Jack’s Chicken Rice, going straight in with a mixed boiled and grilled chicken rice. This is classic Thai khao man gai, with tender poached chicken, grilled chicken, fragrant rice cooked in chicken fat, a rich broth on the side, and a punchy fermented soybean chilli sauce that brings everything together. It’s easily one of the best in Bangkok.

Next stop is Pa Aew’s Hiso Curry Rice, where the crab is on another level. The size of the prawns and lump meat crab has to be seen to be believed.

We ordered pad pong kare, a rich yellow curry stir fry with crab, pu pad prik, a spicy crab stir fry with chillies, and goong gratiem, garlic fried prawns packed with flavour. Proper old-school Thai dishes done right.

Then we finish at Auntie Pien’s charcoal pan noodles, tucked away in a small alley by the canal. Here it’s all about wok hei, that smoky flavour from cooking over charcoal. We went for bamee kua moo daeng, stir fried egg noodles with slices of sweet BBQ pork, coated in a savoury sauce and slightly crispy from the pan.

If I had more room, I’d have gone for the kua gai too, which is wider rice noodles stir fried with chicken until slightly charred, and honestly, you should do the same.

If you’re heading to Wat Pho, Wat Saket, the Grand Palace or Khaosan Road and don’t want to eat tourist food, this route is perfect. It’s right in Old Town Bangkok but feels a world away from the usual tourist spots.

If you’re looking to explore Bangkok street food in Old Town or Old City Bangkok, this is one of the easiest and most rewarding food walks you can do.

This DIY street food tour is all within five minutes walking distance, set along a scenic canal in Old Town Bangkok, packed with authentic local favourites, and perfect for first-time visitors and serious food lovers.

This is the side of Bangkok most people miss.

My name’s Gary and I’ve been living in Bangkok for the past five plus years and travelling Thailand for over ten. I’m obsessed with Thai street food and it’s that obsession that led me to start this YouTube channel. I want to share my favourite hidden spots in Bangkok and the rest of Thailand so you can fall in love with authentic, local Thai food as much as I have!

If you love seeing off the beaten path, non-touristy, local life and authentic local life in Bangkok and Thailand then this is the channel for you. If go go bars on the Sukhumvit Road are more your thing (I’m not judging) then maybe not!

  1. Jacks!..sep illy aroy mak mak mak mak mak !!!! "your not gonna get any mad reactions"..cue, mad reaction…my mouth is watering…awsome vid

  2. I thought the chicken soup had white radish in it not winter melon I don't know winter melon is but I know they put the white radish in the chicken soups and many other soups are you sure it's not radish

  3. Stay next to that Klong so much good food on it, Isaan food on corner of klong and Fueng Nakhon Rd is also very good.

  4. Of all your recommendations, have 5 "Priority" places circled on your map, Guruji.
Pa Aew’s Hiso Curry Rice leads the list.

  5. I have eaten from that crab shop. Aroi maak.
One general problem though, Thai food is full of sugar. Diabetes galore.

  6. I took my buddy to Jack's and then Pa Aew back in 2023 for his first visit to Bangkok! We would've hit up Pa Pien's stall, too, but we were pretty full already. These three are definitely some of the best food experiences I've had in Bangkok.

When I'm on my own, I like to go to Jack's, then down to Pa Pien, and finally grab some pu pad prik & pad sataw takeaway from Pa Aew to eat later at home. 🤤

  7. I made khao man gai and I thought it was pretty good. When I was in Bangkok I had to try and see if mine would hold up to the authentic chicken and rice. Mine was right up there!

  8. @gary I spotted you using wrong end of the chopsticks ! 😂🤣😂 eating Pa Tieng’s noodle there! As long as you can pick the food up with it , should be fine 😂

  9. Aww yes, that canal is my kind Michelin ⭐ street 💯
Last time I saw Jack he was about to move location. Great to see his new spot. Auntie Pien is a rock star and I cant wait to be reunited with my favourite crab curry ❤
Can't believe I'll be there in 1 week wrapping my laughing gear around all of it 😋

  10. Three of us sat here salivating…
Is the chicken guy the one that had a mobile stall you did a video with Joe on? Crab lady was closed last visit- we SO wanted to visit her.. looking forward to food tour 😁😋😋😋😋

  11. Brilliant stuff as ever duchess. Surprised you didn't go to Mr Moo for you coffee extravaganza! I know this is blasphemous, but often when getting the Bamee Moo Daeng, I get the Kua Gai for takeaway. Microwave it later that night and it's somehow even better than when they cook it fresh 😱🤷‍♂️😂

  12. I had Jack's and Aunty Pien's when I was last in Bangkok. Unfortunately, Hi So was closed as it was a Monday. I also got a case of Gold Medal Sriracha sauce from Hattakamamakarn around the corner. I try to go the canal food places in old town every time I travel to Bangkok. I also marvel at the sheer number of gun shops in the area.

  13. Got me salivating. Thanks, Gary. Put a smile on my face on a cold and windy April day……where the heck is Spring?

  14. Bangkok truly has the best food in the world. This is just scratching the surface…the variety of food options is insane! 🤤

  15. I love a good chicken and rice and that rice looked amazing, will definitely have to give this a try next time I’m in Bangkok
