BUCKWHEAT tips.
1. Start with non toasted. It has a way less prominent flavour. Gives you a smoother start and a nutty grain.
2. Soak them first for circa 1 hour. It enhances digestibility and accessibility of microelements and other nutrients.
3. Try with some kind of gravy – sausage/pork cutlet gravy goes well. If you want, go a step further and throw cooked buckwheat into a pan with lightly caramelized onion, then top with fresh dill. If you have a chance to get one, pair with this jared beetroot salad you can get in a polish market, go for it (Unless there's no like a homemade one. Nevertheless, it equals substantial mess in the kitchen and need to fair amount of determination to introduce beetroot to your diet. So you may want to skip it.).
Lastly, a bunch of ideas 💡 for buckwheat.
-Try to make it risotto way. Buckwheat instead of rice – simple!
– experiment with freshmilled buckwheat flour (pancakes, flatbread, etc.)
– try to soak it overnight and blend it with water and add to your pancakes/crepes mix.
– add a spoonful or 2 to your go to salad recepy and enjoy!
I hope it helps!
PS. Great work on your channel, Christine!
Have you ever made a sourdough bread using potato flakes??
Polish mum here, my favourite dish with buckwheat is goulash and red cabbage!
Even as a simple side dish, you can add just a bit of butter to buckwheat, and it tastes absolutely wonderful.
May God bless you and your family
Thank you for sharing your recipes, I love being able to try them here. I appreciate all the tips you share along the way, so informative. I’m new to the instant pot so I try to make everything you show using that and I’m gaining more confidence with it. I wrote down the instructions you gave for cooking the whole chicken…question, did you quick release or let it naturally release (and if so, for how long)? Thank you for all in the inspiration! Your children are so cute helping in the kitchen and being part of the videos, the boys are getting taller, fun to see. 🤗❤️😘
I'm from PA Dutch country. My family adds buckwheat flour to cooked pork bone broth with flour and cornmeal, ground (or coarsely chopped) cooked pork, herbs and spices to make scrapple. Adding jalapeno's takes this up a notch. Once this is poured into a loaf pan and chilled overnight, you can slice and fry it crispy. Makes a great meal for any time of day. Sweet with maple syrup on top or savory plain. You can grind the groats into flour with your mill.
I love your videos! Love from Pakistan
Wow! Another great video so soon. Love this one but truly love them all. You uplift my week. Thank you.
I love your recipes!!! How would you suggest changing your honey wheat bread to one loaf?? It’s just me and my husband, and we don’t eat lots of bread.
hi there, im just wondering when you say 'flash freeze' if it is a special freezer you use, or just pop in your regular freezer…shredding cheese is a great idea!
Ricotta is a great addition to mac and cheese, to use up your leftovers. Ricotta is now on my no buy list because it is so simple to make! Milk, cream and lemon juice, oh and salt. I also can't believe how long it took me to try mayo, but OMG it is so easy and good! I am making it now, too. Thanks for your recipe.
Christine, roast some garlic and keep it in the fridge in olive oil. It will spread much better and be sweeter than raw on your garlic bread. 😉
Thanks for this ❤ I'd love a video of what you eat in a week on your health journey. Do you count protein, fiber and calories?
I really appreciate how you edit your videos, it’s such a pleasure watching your instalments. Thanks Christine. You are totally meant to instruct/share on YouTube. You go girl!! And look at those pipes (biceps) ; ) Michelle Obama has nothing on you .
Filling every recipe with hidden veggies and nutrition will really help you when peri menopause hits you. Women think menopause is the what you should worry about and that doesn't happen unless you have a hysterectomy or "normally" in her 50s/60 but now we are learning peri menopause can come EARLY! I began getting peri menopause symptoms at 40. I'm 53 and in menopause. Boomers never warned us about the menopause life. My veggie/nutrition kick has helped me with my skin, my hair, my sleep and over all health.
😂 Your cutie patutie daughter just reminded me ti hype this video ❤ And God certainly IS good 🙏
I wonder what the buckwheat would taste like in chili? It would be severely hidden in that dish for sure. I signed up for your news letter💌!
You should get ahold of roasted buckwheat (grechka) and serve it on the side of a meat like salmon or chicken. It's very popular in Russia and that's how they eat it
QUESTION: Google says not to save cooked chicken in the fridge for longer than 3-4 days, is this true?
With AI and all the rest I never know what to believe!
Just an 75 year old lady from Canada! Love to watch your videos!
I love watching your videos. You are a breath of fresh air. Natural, calming, imperfect (which makes it even better, you are not afraid to show the imperfections or mistakes, or mess. Which we all are and do 🙂
Where is the hype button? I can't find it.
Raw buckwheat groats make an awesome addition to granola 🙂
I love your videos and all the ideas you share, Christine!!! From photography to sewing… to all the baking and cooking. I have a video idea for you… hosting and simple, but healthy and delicious meals for when friends come over!!! Maybe you've already done it… not sure? Thought I'd share!
Have you ever considered doing a grocery drop off or pick up? It saves a lot of time
I think the buckwheat over powered the meat and seasoning.
I like your channel and I always look forward to new videos. As people from Eastern Europe, we love buckwheat and always eat it toasted (mostly this is the only one sold in stores). We cook it as hot sereal with milk and a little sweetener (1 part buckwheat: 3 parts milk), or as meat pilaf (with buckwheat instead of rice) with beef or chicken. Look up recipes on the Internet! It's very tasty! We also use it cooked in water or broth as a side dish for any meat dishes.
If using a flour with lower gluten for bread, you can buy gluten flour to add to it. I get mine from Amazon.
To prove bread in the oven, you can put a pan of boiling water in the bottom of the oven and sit the loaves in. Creates a perfect warm and moist environment.
God bless you! 🙏 I honestly love your content so much you put so much effort into your videos and it really shows. Keep up the amazing work, you’re doing something special here. If you ever happen to see this, a pin would absolutely make my day, but either way I’ll still be here supporting your journey. ❤❤❤❤❤😊
Christine, your recipes and your way of doing everything from scratch really inspired me. I have one problem, we are just 2 me and my husband, if I cook in bulk, I started doubting like how long can I put them in fridge. if you can make a video with things like oats and banana bread and cooked chicken, bone broth in fridge. please if you can
You can soak the buckwheat overnight, rinse it and use in fruit parfaits… for breakfast
FYI, if you have a stoneware bowl, it can help your dough rise faster, because it retains the warmth really well, and sit it on your cutting board. The steel bowl with marble will leech the warmth out of your dough more. Obviously it all gets there eventually, but if you ever want to speed it up, that will help. 😊
The chicken salad looks delicious!
Love your videos! 🤍 Can you share some ideas for kids’ school lunchboxes? I’m always looking for fun, healthy, and easy meals to pack!
We love "bits and bobs" night like with the steak & pizza. Such a good use of food and wonderful way to extend your groceries (and budget) like you said. All wonderful ideas, Christine! Thank you for taking us along! ❤ xo
Thank you so much. I love how you sparkled with pride for your beautiful daughter's contribution.
If you would like to eat more olive oil, I can’t recommend lathera style Greek dishes enough. Lathera means “in oil” and the dishes can be so delicious when good oil is used. The most well known one is probably fasolakia lathera (green beans and potatoes stewed in tomato sauce and EVOO). Briami is my favorite personally! If you Google lathera dishes you should be able to find many recipes.
My great grandma in Crete made these kinds of dishes for us when she was still alive, and 15 years later as a now 30 year old mom I still make them for my family.
You should try rolling your bliss balls in coconut.
It's like stuffed peppers with ground beef, rice (substitute buckwheat) and tomatoes. Instead of taco seasoning, try Italian and add cheese!
grapes do NOT go in chicken salad lol
the meatballs look so good!
Have you tried making your own apple cider vinegar? Super healthy and easy, just takes about 40 days and you just stir it every few days and wait
