How Much Does It ACTUALLY Cost to Run a Restaurant?

Most people only see the revenue, but the real story is in the expenses.

Around $44K/month goes to food, $26K to labor, $10.5K in rent, plus utilities like gas and electric. Before profit, you’re already deep into five figures just to keep the doors open.

So instead of pouring money into ads, some of the smartest operators invest in community-driven marketing. Donating food to schools, events, and local organizations builds real brand loyalty—because people support the places that support them.

The ROI isn’t immediate clicks; it’s long-term trust, repeat customers, and word of mouth. In restaurants, that compounds way more than ad spend.

  1. This dairy doesn’t work because when you give new customers free stuff
    They always expect free stuff
We love to support our local schools
With each school having three or four events each year and every employees children going to different schools
The owners children going to different schools
    And not much return
The school might be localized, but they employee employees at the school commute to this location after work hours and days off not local

  2. You sell a shit ton of pizza if that’s the real numbers . That’s amazing stop complaining your a business that’s actually making it that great not a complaint .

  3. 1800 elec 600 gas are you using electric pizza ovens ? Any electric equipment needs to go asap . I was in the Resturant equipment business for 20 years. Swap that asap everything should be gas. There’s no way the lights cost more then gas ever

  4. What you should have also mentioned is how many units have to be sold to break even let alone make enough profit to cover the basic unplanned costs of running a business. ⚖️
Part of the education of people thinking about starting a business.
    I admire your post.
    Thank you for the courage.

  5. absolutely love this! i have been in this business with my father since i was 13 (18, turning 19 in june) and this is how real it is. people think its very simple to stay afloat in the pizza industry but it is VERY cost heavy and you WILL have bad weeks or months and advertising yourself properly is very important.

  6. But donating in the community doesn’t do crap to get your name out to people who haven’t heard of you yet, that’s what actual marketing is for.
