Up in Your Business is going inside one of the most obsessive restaurant operations on the planet.

Din Tai Fung started as a cooking oil shop in Taiwan in 1958. Today it has Michelin stars, locations in 13 countries, and lines out the door everywhere it opens. We break down exactly how it got there: the origin story, the insane quality standards, and how they scaled without losing what made them special.

  1. Nice content, could you research advancement on Quantum Computing, theres too much fake news online and its advancement.

  2. 11:41 nothing is expensive!!! Meanwhile I’m thinking DTF is expensive but uses cheap ingredients that’s why it’s so profitable.

That being said they are still one of my fav Xioa loong bao places. The dumpling skins are perfect.

  3. 2:00 "nobody orders one thing". Except when you're dining with non-Asian people. When I dine out with Asians, it is expected to be family style. When I go out with non-Asians, they spend so long scouring the menu for single orders.

  4. I really hope people arent roped into thinking that seeing those ppl making dumplings or the foods means it should be worth more or justifies the price or that its really hard to make. Making those things are actually really easy and not hard at all and all that "training" hes talking about in the video is so overblown, it really isnt that hard to train someone to make those things

  5. can you imagine his people eating family style where they use their bare hands and grab food? 🤣🤣

  6. not expensive? it is expensive… just not western standard. chinese restaurants are cheaper and have more flavor and give you more portion.

  7. Din Tai Fung ceased operations in Australia following a $4 million fine in early 2024 for underpaying staff.

  8. Uptin, DTF does not infact taste the same across the globe, though I'm sure they try. The ones in Taiwan and Singapore for some reason taste better. Even the one in London wasn't as good.

  9. I only eat din tai fung at the airport, n every time I eat there, I am satisfied bcs all the other restaurants in my airport are so bad

  10. I am not interested in dining at this restaurant. Although it is from Taiwan, everyday Taiwanese people cannot afford to eat there, which is why it reports record profits.

  11. I was in Dubai in February this year. DTF the closes water front restaurant to the Burj Khalifa. Blows my mind.

  12. This restaurant is anything but affordable or cheap. The reason they are successful is that there isn’t a similar competitor. The host should do more research and analysis before producing content like this.

  13. $16 a basket with 10 (21g each 210g total) dumplings, that's pretty expensive. I just checked, it's $17.5 a basket in LA. I had some pork soup dumplings in Shanghai for only 12RMB a basket with 8 dumplings, that's only $1.76 and they were indeed much better than Din Tai Feng, it was opened for over 50 years (some say over 70 years) and there were a line outside of the restaurant at 1pm, it was packed (but part of the reason is that the restaurant is pretty small, probably can on have less than 20 people sitting inside); their dumplings are also freshly handmade, you can see inside their kitchen in the restaurant. So evaluating the average US salaries I think it's fair to lower their price to about $10 a basket. For LA areas, I would say $12 is acceptable. But near LA there are some nice small Chinese restaurants which serve much better and cheaper pork soup dumplings for sure, so why go to Din Tai Fung, I cannot think a reason for this expensive price. No wonder why it is the most profitable restaurant on the Earth lol.

  14. The trick is everything is reasonably priced but also not in heaping serving. So it's normal to order more than your usual and before you know it the bill is equal or above average to your other fast casual. On a relatively lower food cost. Sure formula for $$$

  15. I've been to their original branch in Taipei and waited for two hours, only to be disappointed. I don't see what the hype is about. The food isn't bad, but it's not great either. Local Chinese restaurants serve better, cheaper food.

In Taiwan, there are many restaurants serving much better food.

    Overhyped!

  16. Interestingly, they were chased out of Australia for wage theft.😂
Maybe too much competition (dumplings everywhere in Melbourne and Sydney).
