  2. I'm about to say something that might surprise you. Many Cambodians would not like it. OK, here are the facts. You are foreigners. Fact. You are used to cost of foods in the west. Fact. Cambodia is kind of new to you. Fact. You tend to believe what they tell you because you don't know much about it. Fact. They tell you that Amok is the Cambodian national dish. Fact. No one would dispute that. As foreigners, you would love to try their national dish because it sounds very good. It may be very good. Fact. But what they are not telling you that 99.99% of Cambodian households never cooked amok for their family. Fact. This one might surprise you. Amok is indeed a Cambodian dish. But it's not an everyday food that Cambodians cook all the time. Actually most Cambodians don't even know what the ingredients are for the amok. So here's what we get. Foreigners says everything is cheap in Cambodia because they make the comparison between what they would spend in the west to Cambodian market. Second, Amok is a delicious dish. People like it. And it's cheap. And it is a national dish. Do you know that they label it as the national dish to foreigners, not Cambodians? That's right. Foreigners eat it. And Cambodians rarely eat it.
