If it was another customer that paid, then she can't complain to the restaurant about unfair treatment, because it wasn't the restaurant's doing. Also, I don't know about everyone else, but the way I was taught pay it forward works is someone you don't know does something nice for you, so the next time you have the opportunity to do something nice for a stranger, you do so.
There is equal treatment, to consume food, you need to pay. They paid with their nice relationship view to the stranger who liked. No one liked you, so your payment is cash
I've watched so many shorts today, but laughed the loudest at this one – "Do you look like a nauseating couple?" – with the wonderful accent & attitude!
That happened to our family of four once. Sadly the person who paid didn't want to be known, so told the waitress to wait until he left before telling us. He was a regular, so I wrote a thank you note and left it with the manager for the next time he came in.
