A Hometown Treasure: The “Surprise” Pie That Explains Southern Cooking

“Indulge in the Ultimate Cheesecake Pie – One Bite Will Change Your Life!”
Hey y’all! Today we are baking up a real treat from a classic Southern Living cookbook—a Cheese Surprise Pie. This recipe is extra special because it was originally shared by Mrs. J.W. Langford, right from my hometown of Cedartown, Georgia. Those ladies in Cedartown sure do know how to cook!

This pie is essentially a fluffy, delicious cheesecake with a secret “surprise” topping that perfectly cuts the sweetness. It’s simple, nostalgic, and guaranteed to be one of your new favorites.

  1. Love the new song! I guess it’s new because I’ve never heard it! So perfect! I’m making that pie tomorrow…looks fantastic.

  2. Oh my goodness!! That pie looks absolutely delicious! AND … This is the 1st video I''ve seen of yours that has that Collard Valley Cooks song at the end. What a PRECIOUS song!!! I love it!

  3. This does looks delicious I can't wait to make it I have to get some cream cheese and sour cream first

  4. Scant isn’t a measurement like dash, pinch, etc. It means to use a little less than the called for measurement. So a scant 1/2 teaspoon would just mean to use a little less than 1/2 a teaspoon.

  5. Love your song, as it says it all! Chris and Tammy, ya’ll are cooking some really wonderful meals, and that is why I bought your new cookbook. Mrs. Langford’s Pie comes from a cookbook I used to have. I lost it in a move. Inside that book is a lemon pie recipe that has two parts to it…a bottom and a top. It was my favorite pie. Did it have frozen lemon aid in it? If you see one like that in your Mom’s cookbook, please make it on the air. OK? Sending love…❤

  6. I love those type of cookbooks that are typed like that and with the names of the people that made them.

  7. Cute new song. I know it is AI, but that doesn’t matter. Did you make it or one of your daughters? I have to make this pie. I did buy a cookbook. It is so nice. I just love mine. Thanks Tammy for all the southern cooking.

  8. Your new song with the lyrics matching what you were cooking, brought tears to my eyes, I could see my Mother cooking those same things in our kitchen so long ago. ♥
