The rich aren’t going to dinner

Households earning more than $100k drove nearly 60% of all restaurant spending, but increasingly are
a. eating less
b. believe what they’re eating isn’t worth the money (restaurant costs are rising at 2x inflation)
The ripple effects on culture and cities are bigger than we can comprehend

  1. This is very preformative and it feels like an American trend.
I feel like the rich still go out for food, it's just in places us normal people rarely get to go.

  2. Sounds like a LA thing, people are still lining up for restaurants, food trucks, bodegas and the such in NY, you still catch the occasional celeb in line too

  3. The rich have become anorexic drug addicts that don’t like dinner. Except unlike the 80s, the drugs are legal and no fun. Maybe their next trend should be ‘being likable’ No one would see it coming

  4. this reminds how becca bloom said when she was dating she went on only coffee dates which was rly crazy too hear- but she said that it was to save her time + energy rather than on a 2 hour dinner

  5. This shit is why I do all the cooking for my wife and I: I love doing it, Im good at it, and it saves a ton of money.

  6. If you give your body less calories/energy, you’re probably a low energy individual. Laws of science.

  7. Just focus on practicality over trends and avoid Kardashians and the likes, you will be ok 👍

  8. The elite opt out when it’s accessible , is a way of saying that they don’t like people then

  9. Screw resturants at this point I am my own personal luxury chef because screw you I demand flavor in my life hence my obsession with food science and physics chemistry bio psycho social cultural. And Luke heck it’s process not identity based. Screw identity it’s a stupid way to view the world through it creates dumb people

  10. Private clubs, yachts, home meals. Also, don’t overlook how much the wealthy travel, and how many of their meals are on airplanes, room service, at luxury hotels, in their vacation homes or friends homes, etc..

  11. The most expensive top rated restaurant in Sydney Australia permanently closed after 20-odd years citing low profitability. Their diners want premium ingredients and top culinary skills but won't pay more for it because the customers are mostly middle class. Charging top prices yet the restaurant still can’t make a profit. It's insane to think about.

  12. Imagine being out for a nice dinner with a pretty girl and thinking "Wait, is this what rich people are doing?"

  13. Going to dinner has become low status as a hook is hilarious 🤣🤣 great vid

  14. where is the evidence for this, here in london the restaurants are full and not full of the poor. Nobody is eating salad burgers because they’re shit

  15. This conversation will always be 1 minus real rich. The real rich eat when and where they can. Depending on how much they care about what they eat, they have a chef. In fact, most meetings of the elite happen in each other's homes, offices or other private locations; and i'm not talking about business.

  16. „Europe might be increasingly primitive“? What the f does that even mean, do you know anything about Europe?
