The reason that kitchen equipment looks that way in the first restaurant is due to sheer laziness. It was never cleaned. The Steak and Shake…the manager needs to get off her damn phone and do her job. She probably does that all day.
Gotta remember, it depends on the location of the restaurant and the management inside. I eat often at a Steak ‘n Shake locally to my area. It’s so clean you could eat off the damn floor, but it’s also ran by an incredible manager and a team of employees that seem to be very dedicated to their restaurant and customers.
When you late foreigners cook for you, you will get 3rd world country services. Build that wall and how about a nice cup of deportation!!!

Damn, back in 2012 I use to spend so much time at this Steak n Shake hanging out with friends. Knew half the staff by name. Probably was just as dirty back then too 😂

If you enter a food joint, and not sure about how well they take care of things, go to the bathroom, if it is spotless, well stocked, and everything works, then the manager is on the ball, if you go in and see stained toilet bowls, door locks that don't work, leaky faucets, stains on the floor. no toilet paper and/or broken dispensers. then just leave.
