For 10 straight years, 78-year-old Charlie Hicks — a retired accountant and proud U.S. Air Force veteran — never missed a single day at his favorite restaurant. 🪖🇺🇸

Every morning at 11 AM, he’d drive his truck to the Shrimp Basket on Navy Boulevard in Pensacola, Florida, sit at his usual table, and order the exact same thing — a cup of gumbo 🍜, light on the rice, and absolutely no crackers. Then he’d come back again for dinner. Same order. Same table. Same smile. Every single day. Twice a day.

When Charlie skipped two days in a row in September 2025, the staff got worried fast. They called him, and he answered — said he wasn’t feeling well. So the team delivered his gumbo right to his apartment door 🚪, leaving it on the step because Charlie didn’t want anyone to catch whatever he had.

But on Day 3 — his phone went straight to voicemail. 📵

He knocked. No answer. He knocked again. Silence. 😰

Just as he was about to turn and leave — he heard it.

Donell opened the door and found Charlie lying on the floor, severely dehydrated, diabetic and without his medication, and suffering from 2 broken ribs. 💔 Nobody knows exactly how long he had been there — it may have been days.

Staff leader Denise Galloway immediately called 911. 🚑 Charlie was rushed to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola.

🏥 THE RECOVERY — 8 WEEKS OF FIGHTING BACK

Charlie spent 1 week in the hospital and then 7 more weeks in physical rehabilitation. 💪

But he was never alone. The Shrimp Basket staff visited him regularly and hand-delivered his gumbo to the hospital every single day. 🍜❤️
