We Tried Every Oldest Restaurant in London (Since 1798!)

We’re trying the oldest restaurants in London — from a 1900 East End cafe all the way back to London’s oldest restaurant, open since 1798. Thanks to @GaryEats for joining me!

We’re eating the signature dish at each one, traveling further back in time with every stop: a full English breakfast, my first ever coronation chicken sandwich, London’s original fast food, a legendary seafood spot that only opens for 3 hours a day, and finally the oldest restaurant in London!

The big question: are these historic London restaurants surviving on their history, or do they still serve delicious food? Let’s find out.

  1. Two of my all time favorite YouTubers ever….!!! Together….??? Wow….!!! This is for certain one of the best videos ever made….!!! Keep going my friends….!!! Your are great…!!! And greater each day….!!! My best wishes for you always….!!! From Mexico….!!!!

  2. You know Rules is a classy place, when Mark wears a button down shirt.. French fry? it looked like half a potato! If I won the lottery, I could eat at Rules for about a week and try everything. it all looked good. (For you Brady Bunch fans: "Gary, Gary, Gary!")

  3. Italian cafs were such a part of my landscape growing up in the 80's (my nonno ran one)..

A solid english breakfast and then all of these random italian additions for lunches, unlabled bottles of red wine and a table of old boys noisily playing cards..

I emigrated years ago , was sad to see there wasnt one left when i last returned..

  4. Pellicci's cafe on Bethnal Green Road is a real treasure – Of course it's the family that make the magic – I rememeber eating there 40 years ago when I was kid – the place was a real fueling station for the builders back in those days – It's great to see them still thriving and working ever so hard to feed the East End community – It's now also a tourist attraction as it's a go to place for the YouTubers foodies.

  5. This is my first time watching your videos, thanks to Gary, and I love how descriptive you are. You seem to really enjoy the food and doing reviews. All of them look delicious.

  6. Mark have to say have only recently come across you content but your love of food textures history has earned a subscriber for life. Positive energy and real food knowledge. Great to see you in the UK also 👍

  7. You are eating with the worst youtuber ever he is 100% fake and so bigheaded and obnoxious. He thinks he is some sort of ego ronay. His over the top dramatic arm movements and stupid grins and catch phrase is just pathetic. You dont eat things individually these are meals so you put a bit of everything on your fork and Gary being the pompous big headed person he is will try and take over this video instead of a guest his bighead will take over and he will spoil the whole video.

  12. Great to see the two of you together in London. Loved the venues you visited but you really got me with the Pie, Mash & Liquor. An old Londoner now living in Norfolk. God I miss that Pie and Mash that only London can do right. If you know, you know! 🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧

  13. Wowhowdid you eat all that 😂 crumbs I couldn't eat all that but at least it looked freshly cooked and the tea was good fresh ingredients is good to see and good old Gary as well he's a good sort

  14. Loved the video lads. Been a big fan of Mark for years now and love King Gary.
Have to say, I've been to Pellici's twice and enjoyed it both times, but I'm slightly puzzled by all the hype, its a decent full English, don't get me wrong, but there are better spots, not just in London, but in Bethnal Green itself🙅‍♀️
