Perfect Potato Salad for Summer Cookouts (Redux) – The Hillbilly Kitchen #cooking #recipe #summer
How to make Perfect Classic Southern Potato Salad That’s Cookout Worthy – The Hillbilly Kitchen
Potato Salad is an easy old fashioned side dish that is a must have at every cookout, picnic or friendly gathering. Whip up a big bowl of tater salad a day or two ahead of time to serve the guests along with just about any main dish. Tater salad makes simple meals like hot dogs and hamburgers a real treat.
If you need a dish to take to someone else’s house for a cookout tater salad is always welcome and easy to pack up and carry. Serve tater salad with beef, chicken or pork and add coleslaw or baked beans and you have a complete meal. In the summertime I keep a bowl in the fridge to make quick easy summer meals. Pack it up and take it on a picnic. Make a big bowl and take it the next you go camping. Tater salad even makes a cold sandwich a real meal.

Becky, whenever you get negative or argumentative comments, please ignore them. Formerly most of those comments were reserved for channels dealing with highly opinionated topics. With the introduction of AI, those comments that mildly upset us or demean us, are coming from that. Thank you for helping me to produce potato (tater) salad without experimentation!
Always wondered how potato salad was made & what's all on it
Oh Becky! OMG! That “tater salad” looks delish. Save some for this old gal. I always like my “tater salad” but I’d like yours too. Momma always made hers by mashing her taters and I loved it then and changed to cut up taters after getting out into the world and saw it made different than hers. My husband always likes cut taters. Truthfully the mashed salad is delicious too. Especially my late mother’s. Becky please remember our family. Things have gotten a bit overwhelming lately with serious health issues. Especially my 85 yo husband. Thanks to all for prayers. We’re praying for all those with needs only God can take care of. Have a wonderful 250th, 4th of July, may God continue to bless the USA. South Mississippi Jennifer. ♥️👋🙏🇺🇸🙏👋♥️
I’m born and raised in the south and like me a good southern potato salad, but I don’t put sugar in mine. I think I might make one for tomorrow’s dinner from the potatoes I grew in my garden. I say tater, it’s a word in the south!
🙂❤✌
I have also added an apple cut up in the potato salad.
I don’t like my potato salad sweet. Do you think this recipe would be good without the sugar & sweet relish?
We like just a small squirt of mustard, mostly mayo. Thanks for this.😊
I usually keep one jar of Dukes in the fridge and 2 in the pantry in case of emergencies 😁
Becky, potato salad is delicious! 😋 I like your red shirt. Hope you're having a good summer.❤
This Perfect Potato Salad recipe looks so delicious 😋 Mrs. Becky.
Love you darlin’!
Please pray for Renee Benoit for healing thank you!
Too funny! Crying over ruined manicures!! Thank you for this recipe!

I love Duke's mayonnaise. I use dill relish but no more than 1 tablespoon of mustard and no sugar in mine. Love celery and onions in mine.
Hi Ms Becky and Jim. Becky you are looking so good. I love Potatoe Salad but no Pickle Relish for me an mine. Hope you have a good weekend. I like Dukes too but Hellmans is my favorite. Lv and Prayers to All.❤😊😊 I say Taters cause of my Mammaw from Erwin TN.
Why are those "taters" and not potatoes? That word was used a lot!
I love potato salad…havent made it in a long time. I think maybe its time…😅 thanks Becky 😊 I do prefer dill pickle in mine…😊
I’m trying this on Saturday with pulled pork. Great video! God bless!
I'm going to try adding sugar because mine is always missing something and I never figured out what that was. For our family of 8 we keep skins on for extra nutrients and no waste with cost of food now a days
Becky have you ever tried baked tater salad?? Momma had some extra baked taters and on a whim made tater salad with them and oh Lord it was so good! The baked flavor really comes through. Nice for a change.
Mine we saute the onions and celery
Celery salt is a good item to put in potato salad for the people that are not a fan of onion. That is what I use for my wife because she is one of those people that don't like onion.
Never sweet relish. Has to be dill. And then as long as it's Mayo and not Salad Dressing. we're all good.😁
I do add onion and a little bit of celery. I've never heard of putting sugar in. But when it comes to potato salad, to each his own. Have a blessed day.
I’m from IDAHO and I say tater, we diffidently say tater! That person must be from the east.
Looksgood.thank.you❤😊
I make my dressing in a jar or a bowl. That way, I can make sure it's all together and not in separate parts on the potatoes. The mustard is mixed well with the mayo and any spices you add to it. It all tastes the same. I learned how to make it by watching my grandma for years and years. She didn't have a set recipe and I learned by taste how she did hers. I have added and subtracted through the years the things I didn't care for or wanted to try something new. I still add vinegar, sugar and celery seeds to mine. It's all according to taste. I started out having grandma's bread and butter pickles cut up. When I couldn't find those anymore, I started using sweet pickle relish. I have made it with dill pickle relish but it's not the same or to my tastes.
