11:00 people nowadays have been living a sterile and depressing monotonic life that they can't appreciate anything this colorful, fun and unique. They are so easily overstimulated by any place not decored looking like a lab or a hospital lobby.
That food look absolutely incredible. Honestly, the smaller the restaurant, the better the flavor. Thanks for putting these hidden gems on my radar! š
the Thai food restaurant looks like the Chinese food Restaurants in Tijuana and Mexicali which has some of THE BEST asian food in Mexico. It was actually nostalgic watching that part š„²š„²

About 10 years ago I was in Montreal and tried a Haitian hole-in-the-wall restaurant in the suburbs a few blocks from the motel where I was staying. The food was amazing, including the plantains and a cabbage/hot pepper salad that resembled Korean kimchi. I went back the next night! Small, family-owned places are sometimes the only way to try food from some countries, and I will never pass up an opportunity. Plus, the money goes to a hard working family rather than a multi-million dollar corporation.
Homey, you went to Honetown Cafe and didnāt hit your the all you can eat soup? Thereās a free soup bar over by the silverware/chosticks. Thereās soup is also gas and you can damn near fill up on it alone.

I completely ignore & don't trust reviews anymore, whether the food and service is good or not the reviewers tend to tilt towards being an asshole. Especially those who rate 1 star for the pettiest of things.
Do this same thing in the Chicago area. I'll even give you a recommendation to start with, get a Double Nikki at the Chuckwagon in Wilmette.
