CA restaurant fines parents HUNDREDS for kid’s bad behavior
A Northern California restaurant, Chez Xue, has implemented a policy to fine parents for property damage caused by unruly children. The owner cites years of disruptive behavior, such as children running through the dining room and inappropriate diaper changing at tables, as the reason for the decision. While accidental damage is not penalized, the restaurant enforces charges for reckless behavior, including a notable $327.03 fee for a damaged credit card reader. The owner emphasizes that this is not an “anti-children” campaign, but rather an effort to maintain a respectful dining environment. KTLA’s Andy Riesmeyer reports.

Stores need to step up and kick out unruly kids and parents, i.e. Target.
"You break it, you buy it." Is always a good policy.
đ I love your Mom, Andy.
I enjoyed the conversation at the end. Common courtesy on the beachđ
I'm with the restaurant fines.
My bossâ wife was getting a drink at a self-serve drink station at a BBQ place when a couple of kids, who were running around the restaurant, plowed in to her. She fell sideways and broke her ankle. It wasnât a fancy place or anything, and it was kid friendly, but parents should be aware that these situations can cause accidents and can be a liability for the restaurant owners (and for the parents of said children – there are a lot of litigious people out there).
âThe screaming of the childrenâ, LOL. I felt that on a soul-deep level.
Children need to be seen and not heard.
Good! Children need to be taught how to behave
Take screaming children outside! Stop what you are doing and serve some consequences for bad behavior! You chose children, now chose to take them home if they behave badly while you're
out! Everywhere: grocery, restaurant, movie, in a long line, anywhere the child may be making the majority annoyed or uncomfortable. The world does not love your screaming child
All these non parents so vocal in the comments
snip snip
My kids used to say something like âI didnât mean toâ. And I would say âyou didnât mean not toâ inferring they needed to take extra action or precautions to not break or mistreat. Kids need to learn that to prevent âaccidentsâ we need to take steps to treat places and things with care not just hope things donât happen.
I mean it's a little unfair to say the restaurant is giving them a "fine". They're charging parents for stuff their kids broke. While yes they do have written policy about keeping your kids under control, they aren't fining parents who have loud kids, only if their kids BREAK STUFF.
as a kid I remember their being signs in retail stores â you break it you bought itâ We got the talk every time â Dont touch anythingâ. I understand parents have kids with issues well if you canât get them to behave at home dont take them out to eat.
Good!! I hope a lot of restaurants follow as well!
They should fine this clown Andy or his parents for this stupid video!
Sounds like a restaurant I would like to eat at!
i feel bad for that news caster. no singing at the dinner table?? not even humming?? and your food goes in the TRASH?
"Control yourself, or someone else will." Actually hits hard
Parents & Kids lack of manner, respect, self control etc should get proper corrections & appropriate penalties of course.
Children have become so unruly that even Chuck E Cheese feels they have to establish some rules for the kids
Yeah Iâve seen it all đ«€
Cook at home it's cheaper and better đ
Send the kids to Chuck-E-Cheese
GOOD. Sick of these entitled parents who make everyone they encounter MISERABLE
One of a parent's jobs is to train their children how to be good citizens. We used to get graded on Citizenship on our school report cards…is that still a thing?
The family dinner table is the Training Ground for readiness in a restaurant setting.
Some young parents have no comprehension of what their job is!
YES!!!! We need this. More places should have policies like this. I cannot stand to see and hear people (of any age) disrespect and disregard their surroundings. If a child (or children) acts up and cause damage, the parent(s) should be charged. People go out to enjoy themselves, have good food, relax…etc. And businesses are trying to thrive and provide a good service to their customers. Back in 2020, we went on a road trip to Kickapoo casino. On our way, we stopped by a Mexican restaurant for brunch. One of our fam members said it was a highly recommended place (or that it had good reviews). So, we order and are enjoying each others company. However, in the background, we had children being absolutely loud and running amuck. There was music playing as well, so it was so NOISY. The parents of the children did absolutely NOTHING to control or tame their obnoxious children. They had trash and food all over the tables and floors. It was insane to see how they were behaving and how their area was so disgusting. I could not fathom how people could be like that in public. Do that ish in the privacy of your own home. I should have taken pictures of the scene. And to top it off, food wasn't great either (but that's beside the point, ha). Horrible experience to have when trying to just enjoy a meal with family.
Andy, ty for this news & best of all your humor. Always your great humor âșïžâ€
Itâs about time someone puts parents responsible for the action of kids these days. Theyâre out of control. Think about it one day those will be the ones running our country.
Remember when parents acted like parents? Now they can give a rats đ© how their future generation turns out.
Good!
Good! Some of yâall let your children run around at home during meals⊠Thatâs why when yâall go out itâs like theyâre feral children that you canât control smh They take a bite and run away, come back minutes later for another bite. Sit your kids down until the meal is over! Teach them to be respectful, have manners, and be patient.
RESPECT is whatâs missing in our world today!!!
Your mom did a great job with you. We need more moms like yours. Parents today are too lazy and entitled to be good parents.
I like these convos you guys have
Managers just need ballz to end dining outing for people with kids who are distuptive. People didnt behave like this in 2015. Parents taught their kids manners and right behavior till then/2020. It ruins dining for 80 others eating there. We stopped eating out, esp at places with people under 25 there.
Y
Ou donât look old enough to enjoy Gordon Lightfootđą
In a grocery store at 11pm I told a screaming kid in a cart whose mother was absent to shut up. The mother promptly appeared and told me I couldn't speak to her child that way because I wasn't it's father.
My response was "are you sure?"
She threw a can of something at me. I summoned the manager. The manager asked me who it was. I told her to follow her ears to the screaming kid. The mother and child were given the option to leave or the police would be called. There was cameras in the store. Mom and child left.
I was shopping at that time because I didn't want to deal with somebody's screaming kid.
This restaurant will close soon … the sweet karma hope they televise the closure
These aren't fines, or fees, so you should be more accurate in your choice of words. Those charges are for cost of damages, to repair or replace. Even still, entitled parents don't care, so good for this business owner speaking up
Until someone's children can behave properly, don't bring them into a sit down restaurant. There are plenty of other options out there.
"But daaad, it was an accident." Dad, "No, you were an accident."
The "hum a Gordon Lightfoot song at the table…" took me out…đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
Please state the facts correctly. Itâs not a fee but to buy a new machine for damage.
Why do parents let them behave like this is my question.
this should be a rule or regulation in every single place in america.. what are we animals? nods yes
