Sony FX5: New York City
Over the past couple of days, I directed, produced, filmed, scripted, and edited a series of cinematic scenes designed to push the Sony FX5 beyond the spec sheet, including sunrise footage, New York City at night, car-rig filming, 1.5x anamorphic lenses, vertical content, remote monitoring, multiple audio tracks, and a professional interview at Chef’s Table. For the final setup, the FX5 became our A-camera alongside the Sony BURANO and FX3, paired with an external monitor, shotgun mic, DJI wireless transmission, Sony lenses, and Lexar CFexpress Type A and Type B media. By the end of the project, we had captured almost four terabytes of footage, all edited on my maxed-out 16-inch M5 Max MacBook Pro using Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve. Working with Sony’s other Cinema Line cameras over the years felt like preparation for this moment, and I’m honored to have been trusted as one of the first filmmakers to introduce the FX5 and show what it can do in the hands of a working filmmaker.
