I'll just watch this instead of the Nolan film.
Given the Odyssey was orally passed down long before Homer wrote it down, it may well have been a way to teach people how to feed starving sailors after a long voyage, the details of which got lost with time.
Οver the fire with not so fine barley, it would have been roasted much better. You have a crust cover, and the meat is tender. Not so flowery. They do it in our days in rural areas of Greece, with more salt and herbs!
In the Nolan odyssey im sure its ham hawks and collards. Chitlins and watermelon.
We wuz greaks and shize
I think if you had seasoned the meat first with salt and pepper, then coated with the herbs and flour, skewered, then spayed the coated meat with olive oil out of a can or atomizer, then roasted, it would have crisped up better.
The point behind the scene was that the King of Ithaca was finally eating Ithacan food. It didn't matter what it was.
Ancient Greek yakitori
Notice they were all Greek.
Hello! I love your channel and I just have one request. I love Viking Lore, and I was wondering if you could recreate some of their old dishes like Porridge, Skyr, Cured & Smoked Fish, Flatbread, or Viking Stew (Skause / Pottage).
Modern mass-produced pork is pretty bland compared to historic European breeds, especially since they would have been living on forage and not a modern diet of corn or rice.
Instead of an open fire, couldn't you use a Cheap Kettle BBQ Grill and cook it over charcoal? I feel cooking over charcoal would make a world of difference compared to roasting it in an oven.
Man make fire you big baby
I wish the greeks would start saying "Amerissa" instead for america for all the times they May Massedon and Myssene instead of the proper way.
Probably this meal was worth building a campfire for. I think you need direct fire on the meat.
Can we get this man a rotisserie?
ithaca, new york???
just kidding!
Moo-ken-aen, NOT My-ce-naen!
How many times do I have to tell people?!?
(I still enjoyed the new film GREATLY, despite the terrible pronunciation and silly anachronistic armour)
I just went and saw The Odyssey today in the theater. It was so awesome!
My man got the ancient equivalent of fried pork 😂 Fair bud, I’d want fried food after that long too!
People will get out of prison, go to the first cheap diner they see, and tell people about what they ordered for the rest of their lives.
Odysseus absolutely felt it necessary to record his first meal back home after creating the term "an odyssey."
Those are some proper skewers
Yeah im rare to criticize you, but this dish was just sad…
A pork nugget!
Wait, roasted and sprinkled with barleymeal? But you sprinkled it with barleymeal and then roasted it. I mean I agree that sprinkling raw barley over cooked pork would be weird but didn’t you do it in the wrong order?
Those skewers over a grill must be heavenly
coating the final product with spray oil and grilling in with the broil mode would help it a lot.
You really need to invest in a wood pellet grill/oven!
Most important??
Should we expect a 2nd Tasting History cookbook as you compile more interesting recipes?
