Would be interesting to test the Asus thing in some water with a few drops of pesticide to see if it actually detects pesticides. Or just see a teardown to see what sensors it actually has
The cynic in me suspects that it probably is just a simple conductivity meter that uses the resistance of the water as a proxy for dissolved solids, which in turn can be a loose proxy for how "dirty" it is
With the US in the midst of a major cyclosporiasis outbreak I wouldn’t be so dismissive of washing veg.
A note; the Asus Contamination device (device one) is using a pico (if memory serves) mass spectrometer trained on known pesticides and contaminants. It's the first commercial -> consumer grade mass spectrometer system. I also believe it was designed as part of an Innocentive challenge and was one of the first global Innocentive/Wazoku challenges to come about.

Honestly with so much data center polluting the tap water, the asus detection thing might be needed more for the quality of the water itself but at the same time it's just using lots of 'smart words' like 'algorhythm' and 'innovative optical detection technology' so basically like… a camera?
Hold up, dynamic algorithms would suggest that they change in response to something in order to calculate a detection level. What are they responding to? Dynamic algorithms are not normally what you would choose to do unless you are explaining what makes it dynamic. Also I'm 99% sure that's just a particle tester😂 aka a turbidity meter. If you don't give me the laundry list of what you're testing for you ain't testing for squat. In other words it's a scam.
Come on guys Barry had it right you don't have enough information to recommend it or not. I'm going to request you do a follow-up on this one because really guys that product is shady as hell😂 It's up there with that juicer thing that juiced pouches that were filled with juice already. People who needed turbidity meter know what it's called and we know how to use it.
Seattle ultrasonic knife: Redefining Edge play.

Vibrating knife; what you guys glossed over is the ultrasonic vibrations protect the knife edge which keeps it sharper longer. While the marketing is a fair bit more gimmicky, the real science here is really simple. A really good, high quality steel, knife with high carbon dulls in one of three ways. 1) direct damage to the blade edge (grinding it against cinderblock as an extreme example), 2) non-motion cutting; pressing down rather than slicing through something. 3) micropore damage from water induced oxidization. The vibrating edge sloughs water at a microporous level, reducing induced oxidation seed sites, it makes the blade always be in a slicing motion even if you're just pressing straight down through something, and on hard surfaces where damage where direct damage is likely to occur, the vibration prevents the blade from having constant pressure or contact against that surface. Thus is preserves the knife edge for longer. Ergonomic implementation aside, the overall principle in its application is pretty innovative (not to mention very sci-fi…Vibro-Sword anybody?)
It'd be interesting to find out if that asus thing is just looking at turbidity.

I would suggest testing Combustion Inc's thermometer with its inbuilt food safety prediction.

Issue with the bin.
It's so small!!!! It basically holds nothing. I couldn't even fit an empty milk jug in it.
you can replace those Fancy Scales with regular ones for like a third of the price and you wont have to download an app or worry about it becoming e-waste when the company inevitably shuts down in <5 years. the recipes you can find online its fine
i mean i hated the first three gadgets equally but the scales were just particularly upsetting
ASUS It would be quicker just to wash the food. I think it is a waste of time and money
