Asian Restaurants Are Shutting Down EVERYWHERE — Here’s Why
Something is changing in the restaurant industry, and many longtime Asian restaurants are feeling the pressure.
From rising food and labor costs to rent, delivery fees, changing customer habits, and the difficulty of keeping a family-owned restaurant running, some businesses are finding it harder to make the numbers work.
For restaurants that have served their communities for years—or even generations—the challenges can be especially difficult when owners retire and younger family members choose different careers.
In this video, we look at what’s happening to Asian restaurants, why some owners are deciding to close their doors, and what the future could look like for these neighborhood businesses.

I haven't eaten out since BEFORE COVID…I got so used to cooking my own food I just stuck with it
Who cares
Who wants to support a place where the owner might chase you down the road and shoot you because they think you might have stolen a bottle of water?
Pick yourself up by your bootstraps
The problem is not asian businesses. The problem is the disrespect that asians have towards black people, and have had for centuries. It's time to shut it down.
French fries and 4 chicken wings used to be $3 growing up. Wtf is it $10 now? Its not even top quality food. Thats why you're failing.
People are boycotting you
Isn't the same thing happening with farmers?
W H Y!!! and don't blame the people that are darker than blue.😱
These Chinese food places are burden to the society, they never renovate their place, never hire outside their family members . They are destined to fail.
They should've thought about that before challenging the originators of bitching to not ship with them as a response to our community losing a child become of one of their own. Didn't didn't say Chinese he said ASIANS and we did bet. You should look at the other Asian businesses in predominantly black community as well like mail salons and hair stores. And because we've realized there are a multitude of black owned business to choose from white America will be next. We just want skip with our own. And it's working.
I grew up in the San Gabriel Valley of LA. Due to repeated Chinese migration waves, the corner Chinese restaurant has never gone away. In fact its become more regionally diverse than ever.
Interestingly when they've tried to upscale the Chinese restaurant concept using cleaner and healthier ingredients it hasn't worked out so well. Its like the 2nd generation tried offering better fare, but Americans have become used to the cheap American Chinese.
Right now the trendy thing are Taiwanese spots with new concepts opening up all the time.
As someone who used to own their own restaurant ☝🏽….The money these days is in Food Trucks & deliveries. I’m earning sooo much more money these days doing that, coz the outgoings & upkeep is minimal
Shouldn't have been talking shit
AMERICA WOKE UP NO DOG'S AND CATS MEAT FOR US
This feels like an orchestrated marketing campaign. Like those TikToks of people saying on my small business items aren't selling please buy from me but it's an AI video of fake products to scan people. I'm willing to believe the videos are definitely based on reality but the way each video is using the same language isn't organic.
My family owned a restaurant in the 90s. My parents died in the 2000s & my sister ran it into the dirt inside 2 years.
The excuses that everything is handmade bothers me some too. You didn't need to cut everything by hand, food processors exist. Sometimes business fail from being too belligerent & refusing to modernize.
I get sick eating their food, especially the more I age. The best restraints have lines packed out.
When 100 year old American companies are failing you know something is wrong.
30 dollars for one meal who can afford it 5 years ago it was 7 dollars.
Sure… like the Black wealth transfer had nothing to do with it, very cope, very disingenuous.
Every Chinese restaurant I go in two things are true, few to no customers and menus have too many selections with many topping 200 items. Reduce your menu to 15 – 20 best sellers, it's not 1980s anymore.
Sorry it's a wealth transferred so no I will not be supporting any Chinese restaurant
You talk too much
Payment is due in full.
Most Chinese places never change up their menu. Nothing is homemade, generic everything from food suppliers. Have some fancying chefs choices.
VIVA-BRAVO #FBA_#DELINEATION NATION! Keep up the great #FBA BLACKOUT/BOYCOTTING Our Haters/Enemies #FOREVER! ASE-AMEN!
😭😭😭 Cry me a river. They've gotten wealthy off the black community, and never became partners with us. Not a Karen so I don't care.
I remember in the 60's and up to early 80's Chinese cleaners were all over, they would wash your clothes and package them in a brown wrapping paper, all of that disappeared. The younger generation are doing other types of business.
My daughter and I just went to Culver’s for lunch. It came to $30 for two of us. That’s ridiculous for fast food! I didn’t even get anything to drink! It’s not just Chinese restaurants, a lot of other places are not affordable to eat at anymore! It makes more sense to buy groceries and make this stuff at home because you will at least have leftovers!
Now gift scammers became influencers? Lmao
Eating out is expensive a plate of oxtails, white rice and steamed cabbage at the local Jamaican resturant is 35 dollrs. I showed my children we spent 12 grand in almost a year eating out. After cooking for 5 children for years, you get tired of cooking, so now I'm back cooking and only eat out on special occsions, besides a lot of the Asian resturants, I just don't trust what I'm actually getting what I'm buying, my daughter went to the juicy crab resturant yesterday, 2 damn clusters of crab, corn, potatoes that mess was 63.00 and she got sick after eating that overpriced garbage, also finding out how racist some Asians are to black folks, and the poison in their fake nails and fake hair, I'm good racisim is expensive, and the economy sucks. Besides that tyoe of backbreaking work is no longer worth it. Sign of the times.
