I Flew To Ethiopia for STREET FOOD 🇪🇹 24 Hours in Addis Ababa!

This is my first time in Ethiopia and today we’re in the capital Addis Ababa, a city of over 6 million people with a complex mixture of cultures stemming from over 80 tribes. Each with their own language, culture and cuisine. Today we’re going to be eating as much as can in 24 hours but actually today is a fasting day. Almost 250 days of the year are considered fasting days for the majority orthodox residents, but we’re in luck because fasting here only means no meat, dairy or eggs. We’ll still be able to find lots to eat and for our first stop we’re seeing how the country’s staple dish, injera is made.

  1. The music beat you’re using doesn’t originate from Ethiopia. Since you’re discussing Ethiopia, please use a soundtrack that accurately represents the country.

  2. I’m a 40 year old Ethiopian and I still can’t make injera. It always comes out extra thick like a pancake 😩

  3. LUKE- The Avocado SHAKE is FAR better get one whenever you can, they are at Chinese and Philippine Juice Places as well… (watching from Vancouver Suburbs here!!).

  4. I loved watching the process of the making of ingira, I’ve never tried Ethiopian food but would really love to. You poor thing, that chili almost oil you out 🫢Great video Luke.

  5. That flat bread, I had it in France and did not like it.
I took one bite from 3 layers of it and sat it to the side.
I just smashed 5 of their croissants 😅.

  6. The title you give to your video, calling it street food, will not do justice for Ethiopian delicious food prepared with so much love and labor. This is NOT street food. Ethiopian food is made from scratch with so much cleanness and washing. With no processed food included. They always cook their food every day for it's freshness and they serve it warm and enjoy eating it warm.

  7. 0:56 You should cover your hair just like the ladies, covered their hair. When you speak over the injera, 4:28 you might spit on the fresh injera and all these delicious food too. You also are touching the injera with your unwashed hands. You should have wear a mask and a hair cover and wash your hands before touching injera. Why didn't you? Don't you know that Ethiopians food are prepared with so much cleaness a d washing? Ethiopians don't even eat without washing their hands. Next time, if you didn't know, please do it with all respect.

  8. 12:12 chat is like a drug leaf. You should not eat that. And you should not put it on youtube. "Chat" makes people drowsy and it is damage your brain and thinking ability. I think your tour guy might be a muslim man. Usualy mulslims eat that dangerous (chat leaf). Next time say No for unknown dangerous druggy leaves like this.

  9. Thank you for visiting Ethiopia. One thing your tour guide may not have explained is that during fasting periods in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, believers do not eat or drink anything until 3:00 PM, and during Great Lent, fasting continues until 6:00 PM. This complete abstinence from food and drink is what fasting truly means in our tradition. You may have seen people eating at lunchtime, but they may not be Orthodox or may not strictly observe the fasting rules.hope you enjoyed your stay and please come visit again 🤗

  10. SO damn similar to Indian food – Hope to really be there one day , Ethiopia is A cultural wonder!

  11. tour guidu betam segetk//DEMO LBICHAHH EZEZ MIGB…ENESU SPACE YIWEDALUU …neka bel

  12. Tenadam (Amharic: ጤና አዳም) translates to "Health of Adam" in English and is known as Rue (or specifically, Ethiopian Rue, Ruta chalepensis). It is a highly aromatic, bitter herb used in Ethiopia, often added to coffee, tea, and traditional dishes like Berbere and Shiro for flavor, or used in folk medicine

  13. Wow, the level of detail here is insane! As a local, even I’m impressed by how much you covered. Thanks for showcasing our food so well!
