Why African Food is Ignored by Fine Dining | Shocking Truth
Why doesn’t Africa have a single Michelin star? Across Africa, food is identity, history and pride. From the spice markets of Marrakech, to the street grills of Dakar, to the sleek tasting rooms of Cape Town, to the suya smoke of Lagos backstreets, the injera cafés of Addis Ababa and the nyama choma joints of Nairobi, the culinary scene here is fierce and its world-class. By any measure, this food is extraordinary, whether the rest of the world has been paying attention or not. And yet, when it comes to the world’s most coveted culinary accolades, those little Michelin stars the entire African continent, has exactly zero. Not even one. How is that possible? How can a continent of 1.3 billion people, with thousands of distinct cuisines, have no Michelin-starred restaurants? And who decided that a starred French foie gras is “excellent,” while a fragrant West African jollof or a rich Ethiopian doro wat earns no star at all? Is African food too rustic or too diverse? Or is it that the world’s most powerful food guide just… not looking at Africa? These questions link to bigger issues of who defines excellence in an industry long dominated by European standards.

Excellent video 🐦⬛❤️💯
Excellent choice.🎉🎉
African food is fresh and more than tasty.
It attracts the entire world!!
Who doesn't want to eat African food from Europe, US etc
We dont need to pay Michelin to move to Africa if that is what he wants.
He is wrong!!!
I love our African food. Whether Mitchell or not, I am grateful to what our African chefs cook in hotels. Our street food is mouth-watering, so that guide is not that important. African food is the best!
Thanks for clarifying that: but i really want you to do video on History of Xenophopia in south africa
Michelin is a French company. I support the AES and France is very hostile towards the AES so l don't care about Michelin judgements on African cuisine.
All I have to say is us Senegalese created Jollof Rice 😅😂😂😂🤣
Why do we have to measure our foods by european standards? Why do we have to be on europan ratings?
I totally agree, we must first embrace ourselves. Stop waiting for a euro centric stamp of approval
we should all pay less attencion to Michelin stars, luxurious food doesn't equal good food
Another delicious episode, my brother.
Go to a Michelin Star restaurant with lots of money and a full stomach 😂
Michelin makes tires which need good roads.
I had no idea that the Michelin Star rating had to do with a tire company. The Continent does not need that recognition to be validated. Thank you for always giving us the the knowledge. ❤
Even if they could have one!!😂😂
On the continent? No. But in the Western World? (USA) Yes, there are African restaurants with Michelin stars.
Michelin can stay in Europe. Africa doesn't need their approval, their standard of anything. Africa is the leader, not the follower. The original continent and its original people, creating its original culture. Anyone else outside of Africa should not matter.
Me encantó o idea de descolonizar la comida, estoy segura que en verdad tienen una cultura culinaria impresionante!!
We don’t need their approval 😊 our food is the best period🎉
African food is better than any western food
people think just because you dont dance to westernized culture you're the worst or deemed the bottom which is absolute bullshit
Some of the best food in the world comes out of Zimbabwean restaurants. West African food is superb but as a rule West African chefs lack the minute attention to detail and that is the essence of a Michelin Star.
Interesting how you appear to be making a racial thing out of what is a commercial decision. Michelin owe Africa nothing!
i'm white european and i adore the jollof. and stews
It is for Africans to create their own "fin dining experience". I am African, and I will not choose any other "fine dining" over an African meal.
What a nonsense video about nothing. Why arrny you asking why Africa can't govern itself successfully?? Why aren't you asking why Africa still remains a dark continent at night electricity wise?? Why aren't you adki gehy open still defacates openly, with no public toilets?? Why aren't you asking about why Africa is still a continent that still begs for aid?? I don't really care about the Michelin star, it means nothing to me. Africa had so many developmental problems, that is what you should be addressing……. By the way a restaurant in south Africa wax named the world's best. North African food is eaten in many European countries and can be found in British supermarkets like couscous. Arabs are represented there.
I love my African food, it is healthy, I don't need the validation of the white man to continue eating appreciating it. It's their loss, not ours.
Nobody wants to eat bushmeat That’s why it’s ignored!
It is their loss. We have the Best Food on Planet Earth, Nigeria in particular.
But Africans: Who defines "Fine Dining"?
Please, let us repent sincerely of slave mentality.
When did Oyibo dictate what is edible in Africa?
Didn't the same people say "Africa has no food"?!
Is that not the rallying cry of their Aid Industry?
Why do we buy poison in the name of fertiliser & pesticides from those who wish us ill?
Why buy their GMO seeds programmed to control us?
Hear the Word of the LORD:
New Testament
2 Peter 1:3
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
Africa, UNITE and make your OWN Standards.
Eschew a colonial mentality.
As Jewish thinker, Ahad Ha Am (Hebrew: One of the People), Marcus Garvey and Bob Marley said:
"Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery"!!!
Germany is doing very well tho✨
African cuisine is not absent from fine dining because of location or lack of quality,
but because very few African restaurants are intentionally designed to operate within the fine dining system’s codes, positioning, and expectations—especially in the markets where those standards are defined and evaluated.
There are many Moroccan Michelin starred restaurants
Colonisation of African cuisine.
I really enjoyed this and so on point, well done 👏🏿
Why do we need it when we can create ours.🤷🏿
Ok so nice but.We don't need them at all. There food is based on there culture, ecology, etc. So is everyone else's. There food is basically bland an lack real spices etc. So their taste buds are not even close to people living in the southern hemisphere. We don't need super "fancy" cooking style to make meat and a few veggies taste like food. And then over charge for the privilege.
WE NEED TO GET OUT OF ACCEPTON . STUDY YOUR HERITAGE NOT HISTORY BUT HERITAGE BECAUSE WE FOLLOW THE AFRIKANS QUEEN. GET OFF YOUR NEED AND DO YOUR ON JOURNEY BE GREAT AGAIN AND MAKE OUR WAY!!!!
🎉2/
ALL NEGRO FOOD IS FINE DINING!
*🎉) DISHES FROM EACH AFRICAN COUNTRY ARE OUT OF THIS WORLD!
*🎉) WE ENJOY THINGS THAT WAY. MR. PODCASTER, PLEASE DO VIDEOS ON OTHER THINGS!
🎉2) WE DO NOT NEED MICHELLIN ANYTHING!
THANK YOU!
We have Michelin stars in the Philippines. Restaurant called TOYO
Very well exposed Mr Risen Africa!! Amazing paradigm shift.. We MUST BUILD OUR OWN TABLE!!!
I am a Kenyan Foodie and for sure, I keep challenging our chefs on their bias towards homegrown recipes.. The facing towards the colonial worldview must be challenged and replaced with afrocentric renaissance AWAKENING!!
We don't need their approval… we must create our own and tour our own. 1.3billion people. Let's pull ourselves into prosperity!! TOGETHER!!
Agreed. African fine dining should be created on African terms. The point is not to beg for Michelin’s approval, but to question why global food prestige still overlooks so much African brilliance.
No need for YT folks validation, on soul food, Yassa, aloco and so forth.
I wanna start exploring African food you’ve made a lotta good points
Because our food(soul food)doesn’t have any world prestige either
WE DONT NEED EXPROPRIATED WESTERN MODERN COMMERCIALISED APPROVAL!!! KEEP THE MICHELLIN STARS. WE KNOW WHAT WE HAVE OVER HERE IN THE MOTHER CONTINENT.
The main reason is that the Michelin guide doesn’t publish in Africa and this is mainly due to business and logistics reasons. Even in the USA the guide is published only in major cities with high concentration of tourists and/or fine dining establishments. It’s about Michelin getting the most bang for their buck. Michelin couldn’t possibly visit every country, or city, or restaurant that thought their food was great. It doesn’t mean African food or a restaurant isn’t worthy of praise. Most fine dining places the food is not bound by geography but are the unique vision of the chef, who borrows from around the world ingredients and techniques….it doesn’t mean French food is better, it means there is a talented chef in France, or Singapore where the guide is published.
This is what I don’t understand about Africa. There is a gap identified, fill in that gap with Africas own version of Michelin. Such a Ranking would help get African food noticed more throughout the world.
Well they sort of have North African foods in fine dining because they are not black
It will only be noticed when a European opens an African-themed restaurant. They do not want the African to get credit for his contributions.
Africa has the best food.
