  1. Cooking for Krishna -Beetroot Rice

    Ingredients

    – Sona Masuri Rice – 1 cup
    – Water – 2 cups
    – Ghee – 2 tbsp
    – Cumin Seeds (Jeera) – 1 tsp
    – Bay Leaf (Tej Patta) – 1
    – Cloves – 4
    – Green Cardamom Pods – 2
    – Cinnamon Stick – 1 inch
    – Hing (Asafoetida) – a pinch
    – Green Chilies, slit – 3
    – Ginger Paste – 1 tsp
    – Finely Chopped Beetroot – 1/4 cup
    – Grated Beetroot – 1/2 cup
    – Black Pepper Powder – 1/2 tsp
    – Fresh Mint Leaves (Pudina) – 2 tbsp
    – Fresh Coriander Leaves – 2 tbsp
    – Lemon Juice – 1 tsp

    Step-by-Step Procedure

    1. Wash 1 cup of Sona Masuri rice and keep it aside.

    2. Heat 2 tbsp ghee in a pot.

    3. Add 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 bay leaf, 4 cloves, 2 green cardamom pods, 1-inch cinnamon stick, and a pinch of hing. Sauté until fragrant.

    4. Add 3 slit green chilies and 1 tsp ginger paste. Sauté for a few seconds.

    5. Add 2 tbsp chopped mint leaves. Stir well.

    6. Add 1/4 cup finely chopped beetroot and cook for 2–3 minutes.

    7. Add 1/2 cup grated beetroot and 1/2 tsp black pepper powder. Mix well and cook for another 2–3 minutes.

    8. Add the washed rice and gently mix until the rice is coated with the beetroot mixture.

    9. Pour in 2 cups of water and bring it to a boil.

    10. Add 1 tsp lemon juice and mix well.

    11. Cover and cook on low heat until the rice is soft and fully cooked.

    12. Turn off the heat and let the rice rest for 5 minutes.

    13. Add Coriander leaves

    14. Now it is ready to offer to Krishna.
