Fabric Yo-Yo Lollipop Christmas Ornaments

Learn how to make these fabric yoyo lollipop Christmas ornaments! Including how to make a double sided yo-yo using striped fabric to make a pinwheel pattern in the finished yo-yo’s. Make these in a variety of striped patterns for all kinds of different lollipops!

If you give these a try, I would love to see them! Post a picture on my facebook page here: http://on.fb.me/1brUImV

What you’ll need:
-striped fabric (I used red and white with 1/4″ stripes)
-buttons
-ribbon
-lollipop sticks
-posterboard
-thread and needle
-twine or cording for a hanger
-scissors
-glue
-rotary cutter and mat
-ruler

Cut fabric on a bias (diagonal) into 3″ strips and then into 7.5″ lengths. If you’re lucky enough to find fabric with diagonal stripes already you can cut along the grain. Fold fabric in half, right sides together and sew together using a 1/4″ seam allowance along the 3″ ends, making sure to leave a 1/4″ gap in the stitching in the middle of the seam. This will create a cylinder. Working on the wrong side, turn over a scant 1/4″ seam and using a double thickness of thread, baste around the edge using large stitches. Gather to form the back of the yo-yo, make a back stitch to secure and knot the thread. Repeat on the opposite side and insert a 2-1/4″ diameter circle of poster board. Instert a lillipop stick into that 1/4″ of the seam allowance you left open and glue stick to the posterboard circle. Let dry and then gather the front of the yo-yo. Make a backstich, knot the thread and pull end of thread to the inside of the yo-yo. Attach a hanger using a 10″ piece of twine or cording. Make a bow with an 8″ length of ribbon and secure to the lollipop stick and glue or sew on buttons onto the center of the bow and center of the yo-yo. And there you have your fabric yo-yo lollipop ornaments! Enjoy!
