Mozzarella Stuffed Meatballs

Learn how to make these delicious meatballs stuffed with mozzarella! Serve over your favorite pasta or make into an amazing meatball sub. You don’t have to stuff them if you don’t want as the meatballs alone are delectable!

What you’ll need:
1 lb ground Italian sausage, pork or turkey (see how I make my own: http://youtu.be/ONajWixAKBc )
3/4 cup Italian style seasoned breadcrumbs (see how I make my own: http://youtu.be/GMTG73oBXXQ )
1 egg
1 tsp dried onion flakes
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp dried oregano
1/4 tsp dried basil
1/4 tsp salt
about 4 oz mozzarella or 2-3 string cheese sticks cut into small pieces
32oz jar of spaghetti sauce or about 4 cups of homemade marinara

Mix to combine all ingredients except mozzarella and sauce. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes for the flavors to come together.
Roll into meatballs that are about 1″ in diameter or just smaller than a golf ball. Use water to wet your hands if the meat begins to stick to your hands. Take a piece of mozzarella and press into the center and bring the meat up and around the cheese. Again, roll into a meatball.
Begin heating your sauce in a large pot over low heat.
In olive oil over medium high heat, saute the meatballs shaking the pan back and forth every minute or so to keep the meatballs round as they brown. When they are evenly browned, put into the pot with your sauce. Continue cooking in the sauce for about 10 minutes or until mozzarella begins to leak out. This is a pretty good sign that your meatballs are cooked through however, remove one and cut open to make sure that it is no longer pink. Remove from heat and serve over your favorite pasta or on hoagie buns. Makes 16-18 meatballs. Enjoy!!

Inspiration for these came from this blog although I used my own meatball recipe: http://cristinecooks.blogspot.com/2012/03/mozzarella-stuffed-meatballs.html
