Chicken Philly Sandwiches

How to make chicken cheese steaks at home! These were on a secret menu at the diner I worked at and were VERY popular with good reason! They are SOOOO good! You can add green peppers if you like them but I don’t on these. And I show you how to make them without having to find the elusive chopped chicken that every restaurant uses to make these. Finally, don’t tell me these aren’t a real philly…I know.

What you’ll need (to make 2 sandwiches*):
1 boneless/skinless chicken breast
1-4oz can sliced mushrooms
1/2 small yellow onion, chopped
seasoned pepper (4 parts Lawry’s seasoning salt mixed with 1 part black pepper)
4 sliced white American cheese
2 good quality hoagie rolls
2 Tbsp butter mixed with 1/4 tsp garlic powder

In a food processor, pulse the chicken breast 6-8 times to chop it. It should be chopped fine but don’t run it too much or you’ll have chicken mash.

Spread the garlic butter on both sides of the rolls. On a griddle on medium-high heat, grill them until lightly browned. Transfer to a plate. On the same griddle, add 1 Tbsp vegetable oil. Add chicken and season generously with seasoned pepper. Add onions and mushrooms and sauté, stirring and chopping the mixture continuously to break up larger chicken pieces. When the chicken is cooked thoroughly, move to one side and add the cheese. When cheese is melted, put onto grilled rolls. Serve with mayo if you choose and enjoy!!

*In my demonstration, I only make 1 sandwich using half ingredients. Same goes for 1 or 12.
