Movie studio A24 is hosting a free screening of “Tony,” the new film about a formative summer in the life of celebrated late chef and TV personality Anthony Bourdain, for Austin hospitality workers on Aug. 3. The “Industry Night” limited-release screening will be hosted by Tavel Bristol-Joseph, owner and pastry chef of Emmer & Rye Hospitality Group.
The special event is open to staff from across OpenTable’s and Square’s restaurant networks, as well as front- and back-of-house workers from other select Austin restaurants. Exclusive screenings will also be held in 24 other cities that day, including Dallas and Houston.
“Tony” stars Dominic Sessa, who plays a 19-year-old Anthony Bourdain as he spends a summer in Provincetown, Massachusetts, and finds himself working in the kitchen of a restaurant run by an enigmatic chef played by Antonio Banderas. The film will have a limited release beginning Aug. 7 before expanding to theaters nationwide Aug. 21.
Hospitality workers can fill out a Google form for a chance to be selected to attend the advance industry screening of “Tony” in Austin, Dallas or Houston on Aug. 3. The Austin screening will be held at Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar, 1120 S. Lamar Blvd.
Participants will be asked to select the Texas city they wish to attend and provide their name, the restaurant where they work, their role, their email address and whether they are requesting one or two seats.
Selected attendees will be notified by email ahead of the screening.
