Chef Mike Metzner has announced the closure of the Saltwater Bar & Kitchen, a restaurant he opened two years ago on Bay Avenue in Highlands.

The chef, known previously for Big Mike’s Little Red Store, offered lunch and dinner service with a menu that included local clam chowder, pork belly bao buns, Nashville hot chicken, seared scallops and lobster fried rice.

Metzner shared the news of the closure in a Facebook post, thanking customers and staff for their support.

“Whether you came in all the time or only stopped by once, we truly appreciate everyone who chose to support us,” Metzner wrote. “One of the best parts of Saltwater was getting to know so many of our customers.”

Metzner also acknowledged his staff in the post.

“To the Saltwater team, thank you for all the hard work, long days, late nights, crazy shifts, and laughs along the way,” he said. “Saltwater wouldn’t have been what it was without you.”

Customers responded to the closure announcement with expressions of sadness.

One customer wrote: “Heartbreaking. Mike you are an amazing Chef, your passion for your food, the bar and your kindness are a true gift. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. I am so sad to hear the news.”
