“The opening went very well, we were overwhelmed with support,” chef-owner Justin Heitmann said. “The whole town has taken to the place, it’s great.”
Heitmann and his business partner, Kiera Mejia, had a soft opening in the late summer, when they did menu testing and worked out the ordering systems, he said. Now they have the online ordering up and running and are officially open Wednesday to Sunday, from noon to 7 p.m.
Burger Barn is known for its handcrafted smash burgers and specialty hot dogs, nicknamed “dirty dogs,” ranging from classic dogs to their Fusion Dog with garlic aioli, kimchi, scallions and sesame seeds and The Figgy Pig hot dog with cream cheese, fig jam and bacon jam.
“We are from Queens, so we bring all the American, ethnic cuisines together,” Heitmann said of their inventive menu items.
Their family restaurant is built on “a lifelong passion for great food and genuine hospitality,” the owners said on the website.
Heitmann has 20 years of professional culinary experience, according to the eatery’s website. Throughout his career, he’s led restaurant openings, managed high-volume kitchens, developed chef-inspired menus and operated his own catering business, The Rolling Chef, the website said.
Burger Barn’s menu also offers wings, shakes, a kids’ menu and gluten-free options. It also features big party platters with hot dogs, burgers and fries, along with wing platters for football season, according to the website.
