Eating a piece of this moist and delicious Chinese New Year Cake is supposed to improve one’s luck in the upcoming year. With this recipe it is very easy to share good fortune with family and friends. Adding dates or nuts to the dough is my secret tip.

Ingredients (12 servings)

400 g glutinous rice flour
400 ml milk
200 g sugar
3 eggs
100 ml vegetable oil

A sparkling Prosecco is the perfect counterpart to this dessert. It excellently balances the sweetness and is to be enjoyed at a drinking temperature of approx. 6°C (43°F).

Step 1

Chinese New Year cake

Preheat oven to 175°C. Add rice flour, milk, sugar, eggs, and vegetable oil to a large bowl.

400 g glutinous rice flour / 400 ml milk / 200 g sugar / 3 eggs / 100 ml vegetable oil

Step 2

Chinese New Year cake

Gently beat together all ingredients with a hand mixer. Continue to beat on medium-low speed for approx. 2 – 3 min. until a smooth batter forms.

Step 3

Chinese New Year cake

Transfer batter to a casserole dish. Bake in a preheated oven for approx. 30 – 35 min. until golden and an inserted toothpick comes out clean. Cut into pieces and enjoy with friends and family!
