AMERICAN tries BRITISH-CHINESE FOOD!!!
Join me on the adventure of a lifetime as my Chinese wife and I (American) try British-Chinese Food for the very first time!
Everywhere I go in the world, I find myself trying the local Chinese cuisine—and this trip was no exception! As an American, I’ve heard a lot of “not-so-good” things about British-Chinese food, and I wanted to find out the truth for myself.
In this review, we’ll be tackling the biggest questions about British-Chinese food:
* Is it as gross as Americans make it out to be?
* Are there any differences between it and its foreign counterparts?
* What’s the best thing on the menu?
* Why is it so popular all across the UK?
Watch the full video to find out my final score and get the answers to all of your questions!

Not every Chinese takeaway is good it's hit and miss.
Awesome to see your return, Freya 🎉
salt n pepper ribs
All looks good to me, hi freya as i havent seen your friend.😊
I think it was good value brock and freya.😂❤
I have waited the whole time that you put a chilly pepper that is in the fries box 3:16 in your mouth … are they extremly sharp ?
My god, take away food in Britain is expensive!
The British love their curry it seems. Even with fish and chips there's curry sauce. If I went to my local here in Australia I'd be laughed at. Unless you go to a British style one here.
Idk guys, you probably want to involve the owner and operators of this place in your assessment of whether THEIR food is "chinese" or not… cos you definitely are the complete authority on the authenticity of all chinese food, right?
that ;looks terrible it doesnt look good and looks very basic
The Chicken Curry i get from my local Chinese takeaway has no mushroom but has raw onion in it that gives it a bit of added 'kick' to it, i always ask them to put peas in it that adds small pockets of sweetness from the peas. The town I'm originally from had more of a curry gravy with vegetables in it and that's why I always ask to get peas added to it!
The sweet and sour Chicken balls are my other 'go to' when getting a Chinese, usually you get a piece of cooked tomato and pineapple in the sauce, the Brits love battered and deep fried foods and as well as the choice or chips with just about anything lol
A favourite lunchtime meal/snack for school kids is 'chips and curry sauce', quick, easy and not too filling, the chips you got looked more fresh/homemade as most Chinese takeaways are just pre-packaged frozen chips. (The crunchy bits are the best bits, same if you get a portion of chips from the local chippy that can have small random crispy bits lol).
If you are ever in Scotland reviewing restaurants etc you need to look up the "Anstruther Fish Bar", it has multiple awards under its belt and is in a small picturesque fishing village and is next to the harbour! (There is usually always a queue to get served lol). 👌
Wow I wish I'd had those chips when I was in England. I'm definitely going to have them next time. Yummy
My go-tos are lemon chicken, crackling roast pork, beef ho fun or satay.
Im amazed you didnt spill any down your coat
our ( British ) Chinese takeway food is delicious and will fight anyone who says differently. Ive only been watching you since you are posting uk videos. Who is Fraya please? is she you wife and where has been been?
You didn't go for much variety.
My dad started buying Chinese takeaway food in the late 60s, he would come home with:
Spare Ribs in sauce
Prawn Balls with sweet & sour sauce
Special Fried Rice
Friday night as 3 year old was great. Chinese food, and a horror film I was far too young to watch, but always did.
Happy days.
Crispy shredded beef is my fave from a chinese
Is It Taste Testing Or Cultural Comparison??? 🙃 Watching reactions is fun, but many women quietly judge foods by health stereotypes instantly. It feels automatic. I stumbled on a surprisingly impactful book, Balanced Woman Playbook by Mira Wells, and it completely shifted how I see food labels and myself. Strange how this stays so quiet.
Are We Laughing At Differences While Comparing Plates??? 🙃 Fusion foods spark opinions, yet internal rules about “good” or “bad” dishes often stay. Especially for women it runs subtle. I ran into a quietly powerful book, Balanced Woman Playbook by Mira Wells, and it changed how I think about alignment entirely. More should know and talk about this.

Hello Freya
I usually have chicken and mushrooms in black bean sauce. Love beansprouts. Chinese curry is my husband’s favourite.
You could of gone to a nicer area
I considered doing that in Ireland and the locals warned me that I would not like it. They also said it may make me sick
We love our curry sauce on our chips ❤
You should have put some curry sauce on the rice. Cantonese style Chicken Sweet & Sour with fried rice and a side order of fried noodles and some Prawn toast. Or Chicken Fried rice with fried noodles, curry sauce and Prawn toast. I also like salt & pepper chips, House Special Fried Rice and Chicken Chow Mein. Duck with pancakes is nice but pricey for what you get.
I also like to have a can of Lychee in the cupboard for dessert. My Family and I just order our favourite and share a bit of everything.
I truly do not like beansprouts – if bleach could be crunchy, this is it. Beansprouts are lazy filler. My favourite, Singapore fried rice. Spicy, legendary. I also tend to go for duck dishes more than anything. Pork/chicken balls ftw but I prefer it in chinese bbq sauce rather than sweet and sour. Crispy beef is also great.
god that looks horrible – no way would they make that in Australia.
It's not cheap, but if there's a few of you, sharing crispy duck with pancakes is great as a starter.
You've picked the most boring things on the menu. 😒 What a pity you were not more adventurous.
